I enjoyed reading about the concert with Joseph Silverstein....I remember some years ago when he conducted the Tucson Symphony, the current first horn in TSO told me I "must" attend the concert; she characterized JS as "a violinist the way they used to be" or something similar; and I was not disappointed. He got the string sections to sing in ways they normally do not, and his playing of the Beethoven violin concerto opened my eyes a little more to what Beethoven is all about; he played the concerto sweetly, as opposed to the current cultural approach of playing concertos dramatically.
